Participation of the ‘Full STEAM Ahead!’ Project Team at the CECIIS 2023 Conference
At the 34th Central European Conference on Information and Intelligent Systems (CECIIS), held from September 20 to 22, 2023, at the University of Dubrovnik, the ‘Full STEAM Ahead!’ project team had notable participation.
CECIIS is a renowned conference held since 1989, attracting approximately 150 participants from various parts of Europe and the USA. Besides the Faculty of Organization and Informatics at the University of Zagreb (FOI) as the main organizer, partners and co-organizers of the CECIIS 2023 conference include the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER), the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences (FPZ) at the University of Zagreb, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and Information Technology at the University of Josip Juraj Strossmayer in Osijek (FERIT), and the University of Dubrovnik (UNIDU). The conference serves as a meeting point for researchers and experts in information and intelligent systems and related fields. Its aim is to encourage collaboration, knowledge and experience exchange, and the presentation of new research and development projects. The conference offered a rich three-day program, including lectures by eminent European speakers, panel discussions, presentations by international project teams and their research and scientific project results, as well as professional workshops. Particularly interesting was the 13th CECIIS Student International Section, which brought together 35 students from different countries presenting their research projects. The conference received support from various sponsors, including Infodom and Oracle as gold sponsors, SICK Mobilisis as a bronze sponsor, Factory X as a dedicated sponsor, and Automobil Lončar as a supporter. The participants from the Faculty of Organization and Informatics and II. Primary School Varaždin included Prof. Dr. Markus Schatten, Prof. Dr. Nina Begičević Ređep, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Igor Balaban, Dr. Bogdan Okreša Đurić, Marinela Schatten, M.Sc., and Laura Strupar, B.Sc.
Prof. Dr. Markus Schatten delivered a presentation of the project as part of the “Project pitches,” where various international projects were introduced. During the presentation, the team showcased the project’s achievements so far and outlined planned activities. Additionally, the team presented a project poster and distributed promotional materials.
Furthermore, authors Markus Schatten, Marinela Schatten, and Ljiljana Inkret Martinčević published a scientific paper titled “Development of Gamified Cognitive Agents for Primary Schools – A Case Study” in the conference proceedings. The article, presented in the “Computer Games” section, focuses on the development and implementation of cognitive agents to support primary school students using a design science approach. More about the article can be found here.
Participation in the CECIIS conference was exceptionally successful. The ‘Full STEAM Ahead!’ project team effectively promoted the project, presented its achievements, and established contacts for future collaboration in the field of STEAM education.
